Meet the OTC Board

The OTC Board volunteers their time throughout the year to this worthwhile charity event, combining their passion for Tuna fishing with their passion for this great cause! The goal is always to ensure the best possible experience for the competitors as well as maximize the amount (of both fish and cash) that is donated to help feed hungry families in Oregon!

John Stanfield

Event Co-chairman

For the past 18 years John has worked for Ducks Unlimited as the Regional Director for Oregon and Hawaii.  Working to restore and conserve wetlands and wildlife habitat has been a very rewarding career.  As a Father of two incredible children he is motivated to do all he can to contribute to protecting the future hunting and fishing opportunities through science based conservation. Ducks Unlimited’s partnership with the Oregon Tuna Classic does just that and so much more…. John feels truly honored to be part of such a great group and mission!

Mark Hagedorn

Mark is the captain of the Hillbilly Deluxe operating out of Garibaldi, Oregon. Having grown up hunting and fishing in the Northwest, he was introduced to warm water ocean fisheries when living in Southern California. After moving back to Oregon, he became involved in all the fisheries the Northwest has to offer. As the owner and captain of Hillbilly Deluxe Sportsfishing, when not working as a VP for an Energy Storage Company, Mark can be found on the coast chasing fish, including the coveted and addictive Albacore Tuna.

Andy Karlovic

Andy moved to Oregon in the mid 70’s with his family. His father was an avid fisherman and hunter and would take Andy on all of his adventures. From a young age, he learned to appreciate all of the outdoor activities Oregon has to offer, including fishing. Andy has been a board member for the Oregon Tuna Classic since 2011. His weekdays consist of wearing a suit and tie working for an office equipment/technology company, and on the weekends you’ll find him on his boat wearing flip-flops and board shorts hunting for fish. Andy will soon retire from the corporate business world and operate a full-time charter operation out of Garibaldi Oregon. The OTC has given Andy the opportunity to have a great time helping others by raising money and food donations for the Oregon Food Bank.

Matt and Darci Hansen

Matt and Darci Hansen are proud Oregon Coast residents who bring both passion and firsthand experience to the Oregon Tuna Classic. As lifelong “fish people,” they don’t just help organize the tournament — they live the lifestyle year-round. From early mornings on the water to dockside conversations about conditions, gear, and strategy, fishing is woven into their daily lives.
Their deep connection to the coastal community and offshore fishery gives them a strong appreciation for what the tournament represents. They understand the excitement of a full fish box, the challenge of changing ocean conditions, and the camaraderie that comes from long days on the water. That perspective helps them ensure the Oregon Tuna Classic remains true to its roots — competitive, welcoming, and built around a shared love of tuna fishing.
Matt and Darci are passionate about supporting local businesses, strengthening the coastal economy, and preserving the traditions that make Garibaldi and the surrounding communities so special. Whether they’re coordinating event details, working alongside volunteers, or cheering teams on at weigh-ins, they are committed to creating an experience that anglers and families look forward to year after year.
For them, the Oregon Tuna Classic isn’t just an event — it’s a celebration of community, coastal heritage, and the thrill of offshore fishing.

BJ Hines

BJ started fishing at the age of 5 years old, fishing on a commercial boat with his father and uncle. BJ is the Captain of Moonshine Express out of Garibaldi. BJ’s family had spent most of their time fishing in Garibaldi when he was a kid, and hopes to one day pass down his love of fishing, knowledge, and fishing adventures to his 2 grandsons and granddaughter. His uncle was the Site Supervisor of the South Jetty build, and his grandfather was the Site Supervisor for the North Jetty build.

After 31 years working for Chrysler, FCA as a Union Rep, BJ retired and returned to spend most of his time back on the ocean fishing. BJ is an avid fisherman for Tuna, Salmon, and Bottom Fish. If BJ’s not checking on his businesses in the Valley, you’ll find him on his boat in the ocean. After fishing the Oregon Tuna Classic for the last 3 years, BJ was asked to become a Board Member and is extremely happy to be a part of an amazing organization.

Dane Winchester

Dane grew up fishing with his Dad and Grandparents, and in the early 2000s started fishing out of Garibaldi with his own boat. Dane spent nearly 20 years working for Boeing before starting a software company in 2015 and then in 2021 switching gears to focus on building houses. In 2020 he and his wife Stephanie, who is also involved with the OTC and an avid fisherman, moved to Rockaway Beach full-time to spend more time on the water. After getting their first taste of Tuna fishing in 2019 with friends, their 24′ boat “Game Changer” really became one as they signed up for the OTC the following year. Dane joined the OTC board in 2021, taking over the website, and enjoying helping out with this great cause!

Mike Susee

Event Co-chairman

Tuna and boat addiction, along with a few other bad habits if you ask his beautiful bride Stephanie are the marks for a successful Northwest fishing captain. Mike is the Captain and owner of El Jefe Offshore Fishing based out of Garibaldi, Oregon. His passion for angling and nature naturally spawned a love for the mighty Pacific Ocean to carry on his fishing adventures. Being a board member of OTC is an opportunity for Mike to give back to the community while doing what he loves alongside an amazing group of people.

Mike Humes

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Mike’s introduction to offshore fishing occurred when he was just eight years old. Even before he was born, he was gifted some shares in a reputable charter company based in Westport. During the summers of ’92 and ’96, he had the privilege of working on a guide boat in Alaska that specialized in salmon and halibut.

After completing his service with the United States Marine Corps, he returned to the PNW and resumed his passion for fishing. For several years, he had the pleasure of working alongside his father before his retirement. During this time, he developed insulated coolers that later led him to become involved with the Oregon Tuna Classic.

In 2016, he and his team donated these coolers to help raise funds, and over the years, he has continued to support this charitable cause by serving on the board of directors and leveraging his connections in the beverage and fishing industries to secure additional donations. As he embarks on his eighth season, Mike eagerly anticipates many more years of success, and is confident that Team ALJO will once again ascend to the podium.

Jason Stricker

He knew at some point in his life he would be back living at the coast. With a childhood that included living in Astoria and Alaska, it’s no wonder fishing is more than just a hobby.
Jason is a builder/remodeler that has worked for himself for 20 yrs. He built a home in Rockaway in 2022 and has been working strictly on the North coast since.
Although his passion is ocean fishing, he also enjoys fishing steelhead and salmon on coastal rivers. Jason didn’t start tuna fishing until 2021 when he was invited out by his friends/neighbors in Rockaway. Needless to say, he’s been an albacore junkie since.
Jason entered the OTC for the first time in 2021 on a friend’s boat. They were not able to make it out due to poor ocean conditions. However, in 2022 they were able to get out and grab 2nd place. That’s when the obsession began.  In 2024 he became a board member and looks forward to working with all the great people involved in OTC and the community.
