Lincoln County Food Share received 2,025 cans of tuna on Nov. 26 from the Oregon Tuna Classic's Charleston and Garibaldi tournaments. Mike Jespersen, second from left, vice chairman for the Oregon Tuna Classic, delivered the goods to, from left, Walter Chuck, 2009 Oregon Tuna Classic Port Captain; State Representative Jean Cowan, Carol DeMuth, Food Share project coordinator; Nancy Smith, Food Share executive director; and Joyce Thompson Graham, Food Share agency relations coordinator. “We appreciate that the other areas are willing to share with us, since our tournament was cancelled,” Smith said. “The people who put the derby on are really a great bunch of people. It brings in high-protein food, not to mention the money they raise. Tuna is such an awesome food product to put in our food boxes.” Jespersen said the tuna has a retail value of $12,000 to $15,000.
